This is me...
Welcome to the interdisciplinary creative world of Michi Masumi—a transdisciplinary neurodivergent photographer, artist, poet, archivist, researcher, creative technologist, and AI-hybrid practitioner exploring cultural heritage, identity, memory, well-being, and contemporary digital culture through photography, archives, sonic storytelling, fashion, AI-assisted creativity, and community-led practice.

About Me
Ms Michi Masumi, BA, MA (She/Her)
Photographer | Creative Technologist | AI Artist | Poet
I'm Michi Masumi, a transdisciplinary artist and researcher driven by a lifelong passion for identity, resistance, and visibility. Using the 'Affective Recomposition Methodology' within my creative outputs.
As the founder and managing director of The Black Art Hub CIC and The Benjamin Zephaniah Digital Online Library, I am committed to amplifying Black British voices through arts, culture, and technology.
I work across photography, AI-generated art, poetry, and ethnographic research to explore themes of cultural memory, intersectionality, and innovation.
My creative practice is rooted in my lived experience and guided by my original research frameworks: ADN (Anthro-Digital Narratives), MMAT, MAETT, MPM, and CADE. These models are designed to serve both neurodivergent and marginalised creatives, bridging theory with creative technology.
I am proud to be a contributor to the following:
-
Human-Centred Creative Anthropology (HCCA)—a new research field focused on creative and community-driven ethnography
Founder of:
-
Black Techno-Cultural Autonomy Studies (BTCAS)—an academic discipline centring Black thought, creative coding, and autonomous cultural practice
-
Currently researching through a Creative Ethnographical Exploration: Counternarratives, Culture, and Code—Art, Activism, Aesthetics & AI: Black, British, and Female' investigates the intersections of visual art, resistance, AI, and the archive.
“We Are the Archive. We Are the Data. We Are the Designers.”

Episode 4: In conversation with Michi Masumi (pt 1)
1 April 2026 – The Creative Careers and AI Podcast
In this episode, host Jo speaks with me about my creative work and my decision to experiment with AI in my practice. My research combines creative production with critical analysis, exploring how AI systems reinforce bias and flatten identity.
The conversation is spread across two episodes.
In this first instalment, the focus is on my digital AI hybrid and AI-assisted art.
The Creative Careers and AI Podcast is a free educational podcast for creative students, tutors and parents
All areas of the creative industries are evolving due to advances in AI tools. This has an impact on the entry-level jobs for students of the creative arts. This podcast connects with creative professionals and academics to explore what these changes mean for young creatives working towards a creative career.
